Capricorn Studio Groundbreaking Ceremony and Concert

Capricorn Studio Groundbreaking Ceremony, 540 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Macon, Ga.

Mercer University, NewTown Macon, and The Lofts at Capricorn will hold a groundbreaking for Mercer Music at Capricorn and The Lofts at Capricorn, followed by a special presentation and free outdoor concert by Cowboy / Scott Boyer & Tommy Talton with N.C. Thurman and Paul Hornsby. Mercer University, NewTown Macon, Sierra Development, Southern Pine Plantations and Piedmont Construction announced last December a partnership to bring back to life the historic Capricorn Studio as part of the largest market-rate residential development in the history of downtown Macon.  Mercer Music at Capricorn will restore the historic Capricorn Recording Studio, which will include space designed to incubate young musicians and live performance/special event space. The Lofts at Capricorn will envelop the Capricorn Studio building and occupy most of the block bounded by Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Plum Street, Poplar Street and 5th Street. Totaling more than 190,000 square feet, the development will include 82 one-bedroom apartments and 55 two-bedrooms lofts and more than 15,000 square feet of new office and retail space. This event, which is open to the public, will serve as a groundbreaking for both projects and will include a special presentation regarding fundraising for this venture. Following the ceremony, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a free lunchtime concert will be held outside the Capricorn Studio featuring Cowby / Scott Boyer & Tommy Talton with special guests N.C. Thurman and Paul Hornsby. Guests are invited to bring their own lunches, or lunches will be available for purchase onsite from H&H Soul Food.
