A reissued, remastered release from Real Gone Records. this package has interviews and new photos. After touring in support of Gregg Allman, only Scott Boyer and Tommy Talton remained of the original band. The release of Boyer & Talton, still using the Cowboy moniker, proves justified, as this record is a natural progression from 5'll Getcha Ten. Utilizing a crack support band made up of musicians in the Capricorn corral, Boyer & Talton deliver the goods and then some. From the opening "Patch & Pain Killer" right on through to the close, "Houston," this Cowboy outfit rock and soul with just the right amount of smooth Southern charm to grab hold of and keep your listening attention. Probably this band's finest hour.

Somewhere South of Eden

Tommy Talton

In cart Not available Out of stock

On this latest collection, Tommy has gathered together some great musicians, both old and new friends, to help bring to life these songs that have in his words, been “pulled from the sky as they were floating by.”

Tommy is covering the guitar parts and vocals while the foundation of all tracks is drummer Bryan Owings [Tony Joe White, Buddy Miller, Emmy Lou Harris] and bassist Chris Donohue [Emmy Lou Harris, Lucinda Williams, Alison Krauss]. Foundation tracks were recorded by David Pinkston, in Hendersonville, Tn. Keyboardists Chuck Leavell [Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Allman Bros.], Spooner Oldham [Muscle Shoals “Swamper” fame], Ike Stubblefield [Motown organist extraordinaire], Steve Conn [singer-songwriter, Sonny Landreth, Bonnie Raitt], John Ginty [soloist and organist with Dixie Chicks], Kenny Head [John Barry, Georgia Satellites, Tommy Talton Band] have contributed on various tracks, along with Jeff Mosier on banjo, [Blueground Undergrass, Col. Bruce Hampton]. Old friends Randall Bramblett/ Tom Ryan [Shawn Mullins] add saxophones on the first track “I Can't Believe It.” Vocalist, Deborah Reece adds soulful harmonies to three of the tracks here and Markham White [engineer/mixer for the album] adds guitar parts on two of the tracks. After two critically acclaimed releases in the last few years, “Let’s Get Outta Here” Oct. 2012,and, “Until After Then,” Oct. 2014, with HittinTheNote Records, the new release “Somewhere South of Eden” is certainly worth the three year wait!

Until After Then

Tommy Talton

In cart Not available Out of stock

The 11 original songs on this album are each unique - different time signatures, different keys, different genres of musical styles - but they all have that down home Talton sound. Southern country rock, blues, Americana, just classic Talton!

This is Tommy Talton’s fourth release from Hittin’ the Note Records. He is at his finest when reflecting on life, love and social issues. As a wordsmith his lyrics are as timeless as the melodies he creates. As a guitarist he has an exquisite sound that is totally his own. While many of his songs go deep and are reflective, he is not above bawdy humor on occasion. Listen to the lyrics well and you will pick up on some of the cleverness that is ever present but usually understated.

The 11 original songs on this album are each unique - different time signatures, different keys, different genres of musical styles - but they all have that down home Talton sound. It's a real pleasure listening to Tommy's excursions - from his home base of Southern roots music to Sgt. Pepperish Beatles to country into raw, Zeppelin type surf music - these songs are wonderful gifts to be enjoyed time and again.

Tommy Talton is a familiar name to many, especially fans of ’70s Southern rock. Talton figured heavily into that part of music history co-founding the band Cowboy, discovered by none other than Duane Allman, who, as legend has it, banged on their door at 7am one day and asked to hear some songs. He then recommended them to Capricorn label owner Phil Walden, who sent Allman Brothers producer Johnny Sandlin to check them out; Sandlin ended up producing several Cowboy albums for Capricorn. Cowboy was recently chosen as one of the Top 10 Country Rock Albums of all time by About.com. (countrymusic.about.com/od/top10lists/tp/Top-10-Best-Country-Rock-Albums.htm) Tommy has played guitar with the likes of Gregg Allman, Bonnie Bramlett, Dickey Betts, Kitty Wells and Clarence Carter in addition to his own band. He's still adding to the rich tapestry of Southern music, and truly is at the top of his game.

Let's Get Outta Here

Tommy Talton

In cart Not available Out of stock

Talton’s third release from Hittin’ the Note Records, Let’s Get Outta Here, is the most compelling music of his career. Creator of authentically timeless lyric and tunes, he has reached deep within his creative well to create a classic Southern masterpiece.

Attending Tommy Talton's live shows recently has been quite like visiting a community garden every week or so, just to see what has popped up out of the ground. He has germinated, nurtured, and developed some of the finest music of his 45 year career during the past year. Talton has obviously given considerable thought to "Let's Get Outta Here," and the songs that distinguished themselves enough to be included on this CD. The notes and individual musical elements created on this recording aren't stacked like cordwood, or the layers of a cake, they mesh together perfectly as if every note depends on every other for their very existence. David Keith, engineer, co-producer with Talton, percussionist, and owner of Gintown Studio in Graysville, AL is responsible in part for the quality, and intricacy of this recording.

Great music should take the listener far away from everyday life. This album undeniably does that. The CD opens with the title track, Let's Get Outta Here, and whisks the listener down I-26 in this catchy, horn-driven, foot-tapping, breezy nod to Carolina's Beach Music scene. Talton's solid rhythm and blues roots shine here, and long-time friend Kelvin Holly steps out on lead guitar. You Can't Argue With Love was co-written with Rick Hirsh of Wet Willie fame, and is the only track on this album not written wholly by Talton. This track lures the listener across the Atlantic to meet England's Royal Family, and showcases Talton's soaring slide guitar, and formidable vocals. The arrangement, and thickness of the production here is reminiscent of Phil Spector's Wall of Sound recordings.

The next track, Dream Last Night, is meditative proof of Talton's ability to wrap the listener in a warm blanket of notes, and coax them to follow him wherever he chooses to go. Stern warning and disclosure here: Don't close your eyes during this track, because you could just wake-up anywhere...or nowhere at all. Talton's trademark slide guitar and Rick Hirsch's ethereal guitar coexist like smoke rings on a windless day.

Make it Through the Rain brings lifelong friend and Cowboy band mate, Scott Boyer, onboard to sing harmony vocals for the first of several tracks. This heartfelt ballad showcases the delicacy of Talton's songwriting, and the gracefulness of his acoustic guitar styling. This track is a fall day stroll down a leaf covered country road in the mountains of North Carolina. The listener can almost hear rain dripping from the eaves in this subtle masterpiece.

Slacabamorinico is a real-life story (Google Slacabamorinico if you don't believe me), set to a rollicking New Orleans, Second Line, horn, bass, and piano driven parade march. This track dances the listener through the streets of NOLA, and eventually on through the streets of Mobile, AL. Talton is joined again by Boyer on vocals, as well as an array of former band mates and friends, including Allman Brothers and Rolling Stones keyboardist Chuck Leavell, and human metronome, Bill Stewart (drums). The horn section here including Chad Fisher (trombone), Shane Porter (trumpet), and Brad Guin (saxaphone), amply challenge Leavell's finessing barrelhouse piano. This track also includes the nastiest, funky four-note guitar lick since Blackhearted Woman.

Where is the World reaches out to blues, and rock fans, but also exudes an edgy, mindful folk, and Americana vibe. Talton is joined by old friends, Kelvin Holly (rhythm guitar), Paul Hornsby (organ), Bill Stewart (drums), Brandon Peeples (bass), and Chuck Leavell (piano), making this track musically pristine. Recent Rain again finds Talton tugging at the listeners heart lyrically, and with notes that cry cinematic with this gut-wrenching ballad about a great love found, and lost. Talton, the master of moods, consoles that all of this heartache shall wash away, just like the Recent Rain. The classic, electric slide driven Sunk Down in Mississippi sweeps the listener down the big muddy to the Mississippi line. Here he chronicles Robert Johnson's fatal, true-life story, explaining that it really was not the poison, or pneumonia that killed Johnson; it was the woman that turned his head. Talton electrifies six strings in a musical tornado that testifies to some of Johnson's, and Talton's, finest emotionally gritty guitar work.

If Your Attitude is Funky (nobody wants your monkey) is Talton's adaptation of the old tavern anecdote that begins, "Sure she's gorgeous, but you can bet your last dollar that somewhere there is a guy that is glad she's gone." Talton tells this story with a conviction born of perspective.

Half of What She Is introduces the listener to Talton's boyhood home of Winter Park, Florida. This track is obviously a love song written for, and about Talton's mother, Julie Talton. The song fades into history with a recording that Talton unearthed, after his mother's passing, of her talking about his father; explaining how much she loved him, and how happy they were. Simply breathtaking.

Coil Talton up tightly, and watch what happens as he concludes the album with Give a Little Bit...a tribute to old friend, Levon Helm, who originally covered this funk masterpiece. Talton's wah-wah slide and Tony Giordano's bending, twisting keyboards intertwine on this track that features the rest of the original Tommy Talton Band; Brandon Peeples, bass, and David Keith on percussion. This track is the only cut not recorded by David Keith. It was laid down at Studio 1093 in Athens, GA by former Capricorn wizard, Jim Hawkins.

What is it they say? If you stay in the public eye long enough the truth is revealed. "Let's Get Outta Here" reveals volumes about Tommy Talton; as a man, a musician, and as a writer. If you are looking for a dose of nostalgia, look elsewhere. Talton is a survivor...an exception to the rule.

Tommy Talton – lead vocals, guitar and slide guitar. . Tommy Talton was a founding member of Capricorn Records group Cowboy. While in Macon, GA through most of the 70s, Talton was a studio musician recording with artists such as Bonnie Bramlett, Martin Mull, Corky Lang (West, Bruce and Lang, Mountain), Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Clarence Carter, country legend Kitty Wells, Alex and Livingston Taylor, Arthur Conley of Sweet Soul Music fame, and more. He toured extensively throughout the U.S. with Cowboy and with the Gregg Allman tour, from Carnegie Hall (as special guests) to Fillmore West in San Francisco and most cities in between. Talton was also the guitarist on Gregg Allman’s “Laid Back” album. He lived and toured in Europe throughout the 90s and formed a group there, called The Rebelizers, with members of Albert Lee’s band, Hogan’s Heroes. Talton returned to the United States and formed the Tommy Talton Band in 2006. Talton performed at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on March 17, 2009, as a special guest with the Allman Brothers Band in celebration of the Band’s 40th anniversary.

Tony Giordano – keyboard and harmony vocals. Tony Giordano has become a sought after southeastern musician. As a member of Full Black Out, he hit the scene and hasn’t slowed for the last five years. Recording with the jazz/funk unit XINGO, releasing one album, Xinguism, and, moving on to tour with talented groups like Tishamingo, Captain Soularcat, The Sundogs and Justin Brogdon, has made Tony a wonderful musician to hear and see perform.

Brandon Peeples – bass and harmony vocals. Brandon Peeples is the perfect fit. Brandon is a passionate, schooled player, who has formal training in alto sax, drums, guitar and upright bass. He has played with the University of Alabama's Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble. He is a recipient of the Woody Herman jazz Award and the Patrick S. Gilmore Band award, and, has toured with B. and The Buzz for the last four years, and played with Frankie Velvet and the Mighty Veltones for the past two years with Alabama Music Hall of Fame member Rick Carter, and has supported Willie Nelson, John Fogarty, The Little River Band, and many others. Brandon has also worked as a session musician on recordings in Birmingham.

Chad Jackson- was introduced to the band by Tony G. Chad and Tony had grown together in the music scene of Atlanta. Chad's "feel" and touch on the drums is unique and soulful, his technical knowledge (also teaches drums) makes him able to play whatever 'spur of the moment' musical statement he may need to make.
