Founding members of Cowboy, Talton, Boyer and Thurman are powerhouses of Southern Rock and all amazing songwriters and performers in their own right.
Cowboys were put together in 1969 by Scott Boyer and Tommy Talton.
Cowboy was a country/southern rock band from Jacksonville, Florida who released four albums through legendary Capricorn Records label in 1970´s. They are probably best remembered from the song “Please Be With Me” written by Boyer which Eric Clapton covered in his 461 Ocean Boulevard album
Tommy Talton was a founding member of Capricorn Records group Cowboy. While in Macon, GA through most of the 70s, Talton was a studio musician recording with artists such as Bonnie Bramlett, Martin Mull, Corky Lang (West, Bruce and Lang, Mountain), Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Clarence Carter, country legend Kitty Wells, Alex and Livingston Taylor, Arthur Conley of Sweet Soul Music fame, and more. He toured extensively throughout the U.S. with Cowboy and with the Gregg Allman Tour. Joining Tommy is Scott Boyer and NC Thurman
Scott Boyer is a prolific and amazing songwriter. Prior to his final work with The Allman Brothers, Duane Allman’s last studio sessions were for Cowboy’s album “5’ll Getcha Ten” at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios, where he added the Dobro accompaniment to “Please Be with Me.” The incredible album was engineered and produced by famed producer Johnny Sandlin. Two takes of “Please Be With Me” were released, one appeared on the Cowboy’s “5’ll Getcha Ten” and the other later on the Duane Allman Anthology. The song was also later recorded by Eric Clapton in 1974’s “461 Ocean Boulevard”.
